I’m doing a 30-day speaking challenge!
This is to boost my fluency in Ukrainian. I also wanted to create an easy way for others to practice speaking at home.

“Never freeze up again”
Language learners freeze up in conversation. It’s normal. To improve upon this, follow these steps daily for the next 30 days:
Set a timer for 5 minutes
Talk out loud about a topic
Online translators are allowed
Rinse and repeat daily
To track my progress…
I’ve created a simple table where I count how many words I was able to say within the 5-minute time limit. As you can see above, today I said 81 words in 5 minutes, which is 16 words per minute (81 words divided by 5 minutes). I was a bit disappointed to be frank, but am excited to build upon that number.
How I count words.
There are a few ways:
Voice typing in Google Docs. Tutorial here. Any voice-to-text software also would work just fine 😊
Record yourself on your phone, listen to the recording, and count your words manually. This method will take time
Make tick marks as you speak. One tick mark per word. This only works if you don’t talk too fast (see picture below)
How I choose speaking topics.
I created a list to choose from in case you need ideas! It’s in the accompanying PDF for this 30-day speaking challenge.
Want to participate?
Email me! I’ll send you the PDF for the challenge. Write 30-DAY SPEAKING CHALLENGE in the email body.*
*Important note (please be sure to read this before emailing me to participate in this challenge)
I have a preference for working with highly-motivated language learners. Therefore, I will ask all participants to send me their word count results for the first week. I care about your fluency, so I am doing this to give you a running start and accountability during the first week!
Best of luck!
I’m rooting for you 😊
