Yesterday I wrote about my goal of becoming among the best language teaching businesses that exists.
Read more here. The most important thing to know from yesterday’s post is that I personally guarantee my students will reach fluency within months instead of years. .
Only after developing conversational fluency and feeling confident to speak would I ever focus on other aspects of learning languages (reading, writing, etc.)
My approach works because I use simple criteria for success.
How can you achieve fluency quickly without crystal clear idea of what fluency means? The primary measurement I use is minutes of fluent conversation.
Basic level of fluency: Consistently able to hold 15+ minutes of free-flowing, casual conversation about simple day-to-day topics
Intermediate: Same as beginner, but for 30+ minutes instead of 15. Conversations may end up veering toward complex topics at this level
Upper-intermediate: Same as intermediate, but for 60+ minutes instead of 30. Conversations will end up veering toward more complex topics at this level
For all levels, the conversation must be clear, fluent, and free of major errors.
Simplifying the criteria for fluency is crucial.
It keeps me focused on what really matters: helping my students communicate effectively ASAP. We cut through the fluff and stop wasting time.
In my next blog post, I will share my perspective on other aspects of foreign language acquisition, such as reading and writing.
