A black dragon with ruby-red scales flies over a burning wasteland.
“I’ve succeeded” I think to myself, looking down at what used to be a peaceful town surrounded by lush greenery and rolling hills. The thick cloud of smoke in the air does nothing but fuel the vengeance burning in my black heart. I observe the few remaining men, women, and children scurrying about, attempting in vain to flee.
“Cowards. If they’d just stood up to me sooner, I wouldn’t have to do this to them. Don’t they see this is their fault?”
Something catches my eye - a flash of light from below. It originated from outside a house which, strangely, wasn’t on fire.
“Am I seeing things? What was that flash of light?
I fly down to investigate, landing heavily in front of the wooden home. Where did that flash of light come from? And how is this house still standing?
My gaze shifts upward toward the small bedroom window. I see a child staring at me fearfully with pale blue eyes, face plastered with dirt and brown hair in disarray. He couldn’t be more than 5 years-old.
“Coward.” I think to myself, getting ready to unleash hellfire upon the last remaining home in the village.
Nooo!
