I spent hours today talking and writing to myself.
After writing over 1100 words and spending lots of time in my own head, I have come to the following tentative list of my top strengths in terms of skills:
Articulating thoughts orally and in writing
Breaking things down into steps
Hearing the difference between specific phonemes
Reaching an advanced level in another language
I actually might only be average at learning languages, but I have spent 26 years on learning languages. The sheer effort and exposure to languages might have overcome the fact that I’m inherently only averagely-skilled at language learning
I’m relieved to have learned this about myself.
Everything I’ve done for work has always felt difficult and not well-aligned with who I am. For years, I’ve unconsciously been looking for work that aligns with my strengths, personality, and IQ. It’s almost like I’ve been waiting years for someone to say “Azren, this is your skillset. This is your personality. Here are your intellectual limits. Considering all that, do x for work and everything will work out in your favour.”
Now I feel more confident about what my skills are.
I already feel that I have have a reasonable understanding of my personality and IQ. Understanding strengths in terms of skills was, in a sense, a missing puzzle piece. Hence why discovering my strengths is a relief. I now see more clearly what kinds of jobs I would be good at.
Considering my skills, personality, and IQ I’m thinking my days would need to look like this in order to hit my professional goals using the Calgary Language Nerds as a vehicle:
Spend multiple hours every day writing and talking to myself
Create a written, audio, or video summary with detailed instructions on what needs to happen to grow the Calgary Language Nerds
Work with my team to implement the instructions
Rinse and repeat
Tomorrow I’d like to figure something else out.
I’d like to figure out if there is another profession altogether where my skills, personality, and intelligence can be put to better use than running the CLN.
Talk to you tomorrow.

Continued updates on my business
Same goes for how I’m helping Gujarati learners
What hobbies will I pursue in my free time? Probably becoming fit will be the first one, but we’ll see
Dating - am I going on 1 date a week? Is that the plan here?
Just how weird am I? If I truly am a pretty unusual person, can I use this to my advantage?
I actually think today’s post about overcoming doubt and discovering my strengths answered this question, but I’ll leave this here anyway just in case.
