Lately I’ve been wondering how smart I am compared to others.
Intelligence is defined as, the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. Therefore, a “smarter” person would acquire and apply knowledge/skills quickly. A “dumber” person would do so more slowly.
By this logic, I’m probably dumber than I used to think.
Prior to this August, I would acquire and apply new knowledge/skills rather slowly. In other words, I was not as smart.
Nowadays, I acquire and apply new skills faster. In other words, I’m smarter.
Yay!
What a relief! Now I have a strategy to improve my life: Work smarter.
I’ve shared recently that I’m not satisfied with what I’ve accomplished in my life so far professionally and personally. It hurts to acknowledge that…but there’s hope. I’ve just acquired and/or applied knowledge/skills too slowly in the past.
That’s easily fixable by working smarter.
What does it mean to “work smarter?”
I define it as:
Acquiring new knowledge/skills faster by spending more time on learning and,
Applying my knowledge/skills faster by focusing on immediate implementation
Work smarter to learn languages faster. Here’s how you can do that.
Identify what’s holding you back. Be as specific as possible. For example:
Remembering irregular verb conjugations
Feeling too anxious to speak
Not having anyone to practice another language with
Always feeling too tired to study
Stuck at an intermediate level and can’t reach the advanced level
Ask yourself if you know how to solve the problem
If the answer is no, read step 3
If the answer is yes, skip ahead to step 4
Find information that addresses the problem you’re trying to solve by:
Reading books or articles
Watching videos on YouTube
Listening Podcasts
Finding a language learning expert on Google and asking them for advice
Implement potential solutions…immediately
Use the Rule of 100: Spend 100 minutes a day for 100 days implementing what you learned. Adjust along the way. I learned this from Alex Hormozi.
Less pondering. More learning and doing.
Learn, do, learn again, do again. Rinse and repeat.
Good luck on your language learning journey :)
