Reality frequently falls short of expectations.
Many language learning companies advertise that their product leads to fluency quickly and easily...and yet there are literally thousands of people who use their products only to not reach fluency.
Why is reality falling short of expectations?
Reality does NOT fall short of expectations in other aspects of life.
Here’s an example. I love the nachos they sell at the movie theatres in my city. I’ve eaten them at least 100 times and I’ve always gotten what I expected: salty chips with some melted plastic cheese. Yum. This is a picture of me with my beloved nachos about to watch the new Hunger Games movie.
Most products and services I pay for have a high success rate, just like my nachos.
When I buy a product or service, it usually works exactly (or close to) how I expected it to work. Reality matches my expectations. Because of this, I’m a little confused and frustrated at the low success ratio of many (perhaps most) language learning products and services. Out of every 100 people who purchase a language learning product or service, how many of them actually become fluent as a result of their purchase?
We both know the answer is lower than it should be.
I’m currently focused on improving my business’ success rate.
In the past, I have only really strived to have high customer retention and customer satisfaction. This is why we have thousands of 4.5+ star reviews and a high customer retention rate.
However, our success rate is probably lower than I’d like it to be. In fact, I don’t even track it.
It’s time to fix this.
I’m aiming for a 95% success rate.
My current goal is to create a program that has a 95% chance you will be conversational within 6 months. I want to create an extra constraint that you’d reach that level by spending only 4 hours a week toward language learning so that even those with a busy schedule can become conversational.
After reaching a conversational level, I would like to create an intermediate-level curriculum that, again, has a 95% success rate. I’m not sure yet what that would entail.
I’m afraid because I don’t know if I’ll be able to reach such a high standard.
Aside from schools that offer intensive lessons, I don’t know if anything currently exists with such a high success rate. If Im successful, it would differentiate me in the market place.
With any luck, I’ll reach my goal and I’ll deliver the same reliable results as my beloved nachos :P
