I regularly get good ideas.
They may or may not be about language learning. For example, today it occurred to me that I have slacked off on exercising. I know it’s a good idea for me to exercise more.
For most of my life, I have waited before acting on my ideas.
I’ve stopped doing this (to the best of my ability.) If something occurs to me that I know I should act on, I do it ASAP. For example, while wiping the kitchen table today I thought to myself, “I want to try using a pre-made flashcard decks on Anki to boost my Mandarin vocabulary.”
Instead of mulling over it for weeks, I immediately took 5 minutes to download a deck.
Here’s another example. On Sunday afternoon, I realized that I am lacking listening materials for my students who are taking an accelerated 5-week Spanish beginner course I teach.
I then spent 2 hours or so and made 150 audio-based flashcards for the students to listen to.
In other words, I have reduced the time between thought and action.
This is specifically when I get a good idea I am confident I should act on, not every idea that crosses my mind. The result of this has been rapid progress in multiple areas of my life. Problems I’ve had for years have often been resolved in a matter of minutes, hours, or days. It flabbergasts me.
Give it a try yourself and see what happens.
