How to reach your goals

Obviously there are many methods. Today I’ll share what I call the 150 Lesson Method. The concept is simple:

1. Find a qualified private tutor (not just any native speaker)

2. Take 3 lessons a week for 1 year

3. Do a bit of homework

I am someone who notices patterns. After having spoken with many thousands of language learners, one pattern I’ve noticed is that almost without fail their goals are easily attainable by taking 150 private lessons with a qualified tutor and doing a little bit of homework between lessons.

If you take 3 lessons a week, it’d take you 1 year to complete 150 lessons.

Who this is for

I’d say it’s for those who value simplicity. Just sign up and show up. A friend of mine even told me today that for his next lesson purchase the 150 Lesson Method is right up his alley. He took some introductory lessons in late 2025. His reason for learning is to speak with his extended family. They don’t know much English.

I would rather pay extra for 150 lessons with a skilled tutor and have peace of mind that I’ll be able to speak with my extended family instead of paying less for an introductory course where I just make a bit of progress.

Taking my own advice

Lately I’ve been feeling in a rut for Ukrainian. I’m strongly considering following my own advice and signing up for 150 lessons with a good tutor. It’s worth it, especially since it provides peace of mind that by the time the lessons are over, I can check Ukrainian off my list. I’ll be communicating confidently in the language.
