"What I Want"
I listen to my heart.
Here’s how that process looks:
I state what I want
I ask myself how to get it
I start to take action
Let’s do a live example.
I want to run a large, multimillion dollar business with 100+ full-time employees.
What steps do I need to take?
I let my heart and intuition guide the way, but will also use logic as a filter.
Complete a business course workbook I have
Create an updated marketing budget
Update my learning budget. There are probably skills I would need to learn to run such a large business
Start the Failure Diary on my blog. Intuitively, this feels like a building block that the Calgary Language Nerds needs
Hire a French tutor
Daily content that I post just for me, not because it’d be good for an algorithm
Daily content as per the instructions of the social media strategist I hired
Deep, one-on-one personalized videos with language learning advice
Go get speaking gigs. My gut says I could be paid 10k a talk, which would then give me cash to invest into my business
Read that list of 12 books on my phone. It is very likely they will help me to unlock more growth
Hire tutors for languages I do not currently offer
Offer current students who have not paid for an annual lesson plan an annual lesson plan to increase cashflow
Spend 20 minutes thinking about my idea of finding 10-20 people who would pay for a crazy deal in my head. It’d be a quick cash driver and would fill up all my tutors’ availability, but cut my margins down to a very small amount. What are the pros and cons of doing this? Is this the right strategy?
This list could go on.
I could end up with 100 items, frankly. Next, I start to take action on the list, starting with what I believe to be the highest priority and/or what would have the highest impact with the least effort.
Fun fact…
The reason I wrote this blog post today is that I intuitively felt it was one step that had to be in place for me to reach my business goal.
Want to be a part of the journey?
I am striving to run a multimillion dollar business with 100+ full-time employees for so many reasons. Here are some of them:
It sounds fun
It sounds scary and challenging
It feels meaningful
Whether I succeed or fail, I’ll have an interesting story to tell
People don’t like their jobs. A lot of people don’t. This bugs me. I want people to like going to work. By creating 100 jobs, I can make sure everyone is pumped about working.
Work can be fun, by the way, when you like your job. Why don’t people talk about this? Work = fun. Work = joy…if you like the work.
I am such a minimalist that if I had a huge business with lots of profit, I’d probably just donate most of it. That’s a way for me to do good.
In my mind, a large business = an expansive network. I like how this feels inside. I don’t know 100% why.
In case of emergency, a large business allows me to take a significant amount of cash out if I need it
A huge business sounds like some kind of a fun game that I really want to play
Something has told me for years that the Calgary Language Nerds is the key that will unlock an opportunity that I could never even of dream of that’d be mind-bogglingly cool for me and everyone around me
So…how can you be a part of the journey?
Apply to work as a tutor. I don’t have a formal application form right now, so just fill out the contact form on my website. I’m not in desperate need of tutors at the moment to be frank, but I am starting initial interviews
Teach me something I don’t know that will help my business grow. If you have a skill that can help, I’m interested in learning
Connect me with someone you know who can help to grow my business. It’s a long shot, but may as well put it out there
This is in line with #2 and #3, but there are so many unknown unknowns for me to go from where I am now to where I want to go. Any help on clearing those up would be appreciated
